PLATO

PLATO is a program we will be using in class that can also be used at home to support reading instruction.  Each student has their own log in information for this program.  When a student has logged in, the assignments they are to do are listed.  They should always start at the top of the list and work their way to the bottom.  Each activity must be completed before moving on to the next one.

Khan Academy

Each student needs to have their own account log in information, and I need to be added as a coach.  Please send a copy of this to school on an index card.  We will be using Khan on a regular basis as part of our math curriculum.

Classroom Expectations

Homework Policy:  Students have time during the day to work on the assignments that are given.  Some assignments I require to be completed in class, and I will tell the students this at the time the assignment is given.  It is the student's responsibility to take the work home, complete it, and turn it in on time.  If the assignment is not turned in complete and on time it will be considered late.  I will send home a homework slip for you to sign that keeps you informed of the missing work.  These assignments will receive a zero for the grade. Most students will have math homework nightly.  Students that do not put their name on an assignment will also receive a homework slip and a zero for the grade on that assignment.

Khan Academy:  We will be using Khan Academy in the classroom again this year as part of our math curriculum.  Each student needs to have their own account for this.  If your child already has a Khan account, please send their login information to school.  If they do not have an account, please create one for them. You will also need to add me as a coach.

Water Bottles, Snacks, and Birthday Treats:

* Students may have a water bottle and only water in the classroom.

* There will be an opportunity for students to have a healthy snack in the morning and afternoon.  Please do not send cookies, candy, pudding, etc. for snack time.

* Students may share treats with others in the class only if their birthday falls on a school day.  Any treats must be store bought and dropped off at the office in the morning.  They will be handed out at lunchtime.

Classroom Expectations:  These expectations are designed to maximize the time spent on instruction and learning, minimize the time spent on discipline, and maintain the safety of each student while in the classroom.

*Follow the directions the first time given.

*Be courteous when others are speaking.

*Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

*Ask permission before leaving the room.

*Be respectful of the learning in all classrooms.

*HAVE FUN!

Consequences:

First Offense:  Warning

Further offenses will result in the loss of recess time, and if necessary, a parent/teacher conference.

Severe Clause:  Any behavior that is violent or insubordinate will be directed to the principal immediately.

I am very excited about another year at STEM and look forward to working with each of you and your child.  If you have any questions or information that you feel will contribute to making your child's year a successful one, please feel free to contact me at 687-8002 or dfrates@northidahostem.org.
