What's New

It is hard to believe half the year has come and gone. As always, it is a whirlwind of exciting activities and learning for your children. I enjoy every day with my class, and look forward to the second half of the year exploring these subjects: Weather, paleontology, matter, plants, and landforms to name a few. In addition, JFLL is well under way with the theme of water sources. I love this project and observing how your children rise to the challenge of developing useful methods for real life applications. Their ability to brainstorm, collaborate, problem-solve, and research through the process is truly inspiring.

Thank you for sharing your amazing, creative, and industrious children with me.

Math and Reading Homework.

Math:  Two worksheets will go home each night. Please go over these assignments with your child, and write your initials at the top RIGHT of each paper.  This lets me know you looked the paper over and helped in any areas in which your child had difficulty.  If homework is not turned in the following day I will send home a missing assignment slip to be signed by you and returned.  No late papers will be accepted. If your child is absent an extra day is allowed to make up the assignment.

Fluency Reading Logs and Independent Reading Time Sheets will go home Wednesday and will be due back the following Tuesday.

Fluency Reading Logs A passage will go home each week, and I am expecting your child to read the passage to you that Wednesday evening, then a couple more times before the following Monday night completing two- one minute timings for the first reading(Wed.) and the last(Mon.), Please record their words per minute (wpm) on their Fluency Reading Log. Please have your child write in the name of the passage and dates in the appropriate section.                                                              Parent/guardian signatures are required.

Independent Reading Time Sheet:  Students are expected to read at least 15 minutes per night. Every Monday night write the total minutes read for that week by filling out one line on their Independent Time Sheet, and then return it to school each Tuesday morning.

**All homework assignments will count as part of your child's math and reading grade.

In addition, please have your child read one or two columns from the Fry's word list several times during the week. Sight word list reading can also count toward part of their independent reading time. This list is to be kept at home.

Thank you in advance for taking part in your child's reading success!!
